MISSION

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts provides the Bronx and surrounding communities with access to affordable local, national, and international performances that entertain, educate, inspire, and celebrate the traditions of a multi-cultural community.

Formed on the campus of Lehman College, this venue has been serving the community for over 45 years!

HISTORY

Lehman Center has long served as a cultural cornerstone in the Bronx, presenting legendary Latin Music icons such as Celia Cruz, El Gran Combo, Rubén Blades, and the Fania Records family while celebrating New York’s vital contribution to world music through Salsa.

Its decades-spanning International Series has brought global artistry—from Chinese acrobatics and African Gospel Choirs to Japanese Taiko drumming and Mexican folkloric ballet—offering underrepresented communities rare, affordable access to world-class performances.

The Center has also championed Black artistic excellence through its Celebrity Series, featuring celebrated performers like Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson, and Ray Charles.

Together, these longstanding traditions underscore Lehman Center’s historic role as one of the Bronx’s most important cultural institutions, dedicated to preserving and uplifting diverse artistic heritage for all.
